Recently, we encountered an interesting challenge at our project in Ta’Lana Bay, on the Shuswap’s North Shore. The project consists of 5,000 square foot custom house and a 2,600 square foot shop on a waterfront lot.
“Due to the lot grade sloping in two directions, we had to elevate the shop foundation to match the house elevation and connect the two structures with a retaining wall,” explains Project Manager Doug Mann. “The resulting wall is 80 feet long and 10 feet high, and it required extensive geotechnical engineering. We utilized Verdi-Blocks and incorporated a curve into the design to add visual interest.”

“Needless to say, our clients are thrilled with how it turned out,” adds Doug.
The small original home on this lake shore property was lost in the 2023 wildfires. Our clients purchased the lot and set their sights on building something larger and more modern, incorporating West Coast design features and finishes.
