The Challenges of Lakefront Rebuilds
As you are probably aware, there are many old cabins around the shores of the Shuswap Lake that were built 50 to 70 years ago. The lots these rustic recreational homes are built on are often stunning, with gorgeous views and water access. But many of these structures are reaching the end of their serviceable life or are in desperate need of a major update.
The challenge is that many of these old sub-divisions or properties were built close to the shore and would never be allowed to be re-built in their current locations due to modern regulations.
Understanding what is and isn’t allowed is a minefield and that has led many homeowners down a dead end for development. Here at Copper Island Fine Homes, we can confidently say that no other contractor has rebuilt or renovated more older Shuswap lakefront homes. In fact, we’re currently working on four such projects, two of which the homeowners had previously engaged other contractors who did not have the knowledge or experience to know how to proceed. Consequently, they reached a point where their dreams of bringing their homes into the 21st century came to a shuddering halt!
Over the years, our hard-won experience and knowledge moving these projects forward has led to many successful rebuilds, updates, and completely satisfied clients. There are options if you approach the problems correctly. We’re not saying it’s easy, as the process involves a lot of in depth investigation and very careful planning to get the desired end result. But with patience and by working with the correct key partners, we have had good success in this challenging area of lakefront development and riparian regulation.
