    CIFH FAQ'S

While a lot of headline sq ft rates get thrown around, the reality is the price can vary and way too many assumptions are being made to be in any way accurate (based on a simple sq ft price).. Here at Copper Island Fine Homes we treat your custom home individually and have developed a custom estimating program to take into account all your unique requirements and come up with a way more accurate budget.

In the Shuswap we have very varied lots with different grade, aspect, size, ground conditions etc. Having a custom home will allow you to maximize the lot and take advantage of these variations, instead of being compromised by trying to work around a stock plan. The small cost involved in a custom plan, is far outweighed by the benefits you will get from it.

This depends on the complexity of the lot and the necessary requirements for permitting. It will also depend on how long you need to develop a custom home to realize your dream. As a general guide for less complex projects we would recommend allowing 2-3 months for the design process and at least 3-4 for permitting.

Typically the duration of construction is in the 8-10 month range, but more complex lots or very large projects can extend to over 1 year or more.

We are a very detailed full service contractor who has developed many systems to keep you up to date on the build process and accurate financial analysis. Any change orders will be approved by a formal written request document.

Yes we take great pride in building any size of home! No matter the size, we will not compromise on the quality of the build and our attention to detail will not change.

Building a home is a large and complex process over a long period of time. Choose your builder very carefully. Make sure they not only have all the necessary qualifications, but also the experience and systems to manage your project properly. One of the biggest complaints we hear about from other people afterwards is how much the project and therefore price changed along the way. Up front due diligence is a must, if you don’t want lots of unwanted surprises!

There are many ways to improve the energy efficiency of your home, but some have a greater impact than others and costs can vary. Early consultation with an energy consultant is imperative to ensure you find the right balance and this is why we are heavily involved in the design process.

We firmly believe that you take the extra time and effort to build a house well. Attention to detail and exceeding basic standards is important in achieving this in reality. Furthermore hundreds of photos are taken during the build to back this up.

On completion you will receive a full copy of every document you need relating to all aspects of your home for future reference. Furthermore we have a dedicated person and system to track any punch list items. We also do full 1,2,5 and 10 year complimentary home inspections. Bottom line is we really care and you have peace of mind knowing any items will be dealt with.

We firmly believe that our results speak for themselves! We have so many testimonials and a lot of our business is from word of mouth recommendations. Don’t take our word for it, read the testimonials and speak to people who have built with us!

We decided to have our retirement home built in Blind Bay while still living in Europe. We therefore wanted a local builder with whom we could comfortably work with and trust.
