It’s all systems go at one of our newest projects, a luxurious 4,800 square foot lakefront home with oversized double garage and a 2,200 separate shop on the North shore.
We’re only a few days into the excavation and we thought this would be an ideal time to directional drill for the lake water line and pump. So we called in our local experts, Ironman Directional Drilling out of Salmon Arm. We’ve subcontracted this extremely reliable company several times in the past, and we were happy to see them roll onto the jobsite with their highly specialized equipment which includes the Ditch Witch tracked directional drilling machine which you can see in action in the photos above.
“The ground is exceptionally rocky at this location, which makes drilling out a few hundred feet slow and difficult, but still possible,” explains Copper Island Project Manager Doug Mann. “Once the drilling is done, a boat goes out past the drop off point with a diver to pinpoint the location where the drill bit emerges from the lake bottom. At that point, a rubber sleeve is inserted into the borehole, which the drill then pulls backwards to the point of origin in the home. Later on, water and power lines are slid through the sleeve to the new lake pump.”
