Cool Carriage House

Interest in carriage houses and other types of secondary dwelling units is growing as the Columbia Shuswap Regional District works to finalize bylaw changes to officially welcome them.

In Scotch Creek, we’re now working on an excellent example of this type of housing, which municipalities and regional governments across the province are embracing in growing numbers to address the ongoing housing shortage. This project had initially been delayed for some time, as the owners’ property had to be rezoned to allow construction.

Above are some recent site photos from this project, as well as a rendered drawing showing what it will look like once finished. As you can see, the lower level offers almost 600 square feet of garage space to store boats and other vehicles, while the second level offers a surprising spacious one bedroom suite with an expansive covered deck.

The owners will make good use of the suite at some point in the future, as they plan to extend and renovate the property’s original house on this lakefront lot. This has been their second home for many years, but now, as they plan for retirement, this is becoming their focus for the future. They have an exceptional beautiful view of Copper Island, and the large flat lot is perfect to build on.
