Change of Course!

An interesting thing happened at a whole home renovation that we just completed this past week in Blind Bay.

The renovation involved a complete updating of an older home, and naturally included a brand new kitchen. About six weeks ago, our kitchen sub-contractor, 7 Points Millwork out of Kamloops, wrapped up the beautiful new kitchen. Our clients loved it – except for one thing. The new island was running in the wrong direction.

“When they saw it and walked the space, they realized it was just not functional for them,” explains Project Manager Heidi Friesen. “So we went to work! We ended up shrinking the island and spinning it. We had to move the island pendant lights, patch drywall and repaint. All our trades were on board and more than willing to help us accomplish our clients’ wishes. The final product is much more welcoming and better suited to entertain and enjoy the views.”

You can see the finished kitchen in the inset photo above. In the main photo, you can see another exceptional part of this renovation – the folding sliding doors that completely open the interior to the expansive deck space. This gives our clients so much more living space because they can essentially open up two entire walls to the outdoors as weather allows.

Here at Copper Island, we understand that changes sometimes become necessary only once a problem is seen in real life, in a finished product. That’s why we do our level best to remain flexible throughout the building process.

“We will miss working alongside these clients,” says Friesen. “They handled every challenge we had with a grain of salt and adapted with us as we needed. This house had its fair share of surprises, and we all worked together to reach solutions. We hope they enjoy their home for many years to come.”
