It’s always nice when colleagues from the construction industry choose you to do some work for them. That was the case recently when a couple from Jasper, who have a significant amount of construction experience, asked us to update their family Celista waterfront summer home after hearing good things about our reputation and seeing some of our homes.

The photos below show how the home looked prior to us getting started a couple of weeks ago, and what the finished product will look like.

We started with WCB asbestos testing and remediation. Fortunately, we ended up with only minor remediation work involving some old vinyl tiles.

Last week, with building permits in place and plans finalized, we proceeded with demolition. Once complete, we will confirm point loads for a new roof and enlarged windows. We’ll also move forward with site assessments for upgraded HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fireplaces.

Then we’ll commence re-framing the main floor, adding a new upper floor loft, improving access through new front door, opening up the main floor interior with basement stair relocation, enhancing lake views with larger windows, and improving curb appeal from street as well as the lake.

Metal-clad stained Loewen wood windows are on order, as is a shaker-style, fir grain, stained exterior door. Down the road, we’ll be installing maple shaker-style cabinets with quartz counter tops, vertical grain fir closet shelving, new posts and beams, new stair railings, and a wood-burning main floor Renaissance Rumford fireplace. A high efficiency Lennox propane furnace with heat pump will also provide warmth and comfort in all seasons.

Look for more updates as this project continues into the fall.
